Pension Grabber Shawn Nelson Says “Read My Lips”
While Sticking Orange County Taxpayers With A Costly Tab
(Anaheim, CA) – Anaheim Businessman Harry Sidhu today criticized Supervisor Shawn Nelson for breaking his promises of reform to North Orange County Taxpayers by accepting the most lucrative possible county pension benefits.
“This is a ‘read my lips’ moment for Mr. Nelson. After campaigning all last spring on reducing county employee pensions, one of his first actions in office is to accept the most lucrative possible county pension option,” said Sidhu.
“Shame on Mr. Nelson for his dishonesty and his betrayal of the taxpayers,” continued Sidhu.
“Nelson’s pension hypocrisy will cost Orange County taxpayers hundreds of thousands of dollars,” declared Sidhu campaign spokesman Chris Jones. “Including his years of service on the Fullerton City Council, Nelson’s pension pork will result in this term-limited politician receiving 37.6% of his salary in taxpayer-financed pension payments per year—for the rest of his life beginning at age 55.”
“Nelson could have opted NOT to take the county pension benefit and enroll in a private 401(K) Plan. He even could have chosen a less costly ‘1.62% at age 65’ county pension option, but he went for the Cadillac ‘2.7% at age 55’ option instead,” continued Jones. “So much for his personal commitment to reducing the County’s pension costs.”
“The Nelson campaign is desperately trying to change the subject by attacking Harry Sidhu. However, Harry has signed a binding pledge NOT to accept ANY county pension benefits. As Orange County Supervisor for the 4th District, Harry Sidhu will add NOTHING to the County’s pension debt. The same cannot be said for pension grabbing politician Shawn Nelson,” concluded Jones.
