Anaheim: Affordable Housing Approved
The Orange County Register - Thursday, August 10, 2006
A scaled-back, 25-unit affordable housing complex is set to go on a plot left over from the Santa Ana (I-5) Freeway widening project, but some neighbors are upset.
On Tuesday, the City Council voted 4-1 for the Diamond Street Apartments project, which had been withdrawn in June after some members said they prefer larger units. The project shrunk from 33 to 25 apartments. Councilman Harry Sidhu objected because he thinks the city should seek a new bid.
Some neighbors said Tuesday that they prefer a park or other development instead of a dense complex with programs for mentally ill residents. Some advocates for the mental-illness services praised the plan.
